Expanded Metal Mesh for Walkways, Guards, Filtration, and Architecture

Made by slitting and stretching solid metal sheets. No material waste, no welds, no joints. Available in MS HR, SS304, and Aluminium in standard and flattened patterns.

What is Expanded Metal?

Expanded metal is produced by simultaneously slitting and stretching a solid sheet of metal. This creates a one-piece mesh with diamond-shaped openings, where every strand is connected without any welds or joints. The process uses nearly 100% of the raw material, making it extremely material-efficient.

Standard (Raised)

The mesh retains its three-dimensional, raised diamond pattern after expansion. Provides excellent grip and drainage. Used for walkways, platforms, and stair treads.

Flattened

After expansion, the mesh is cold-rolled flat to create a smooth surface. Used for machine guards, ceiling panels, filtration, and decorative applications.

One-Piece Construction

Since expanded metal is made from a single sheet with no welds or joints, it is inherently stronger than fabricated alternatives. Every strand is integral to the original sheet.

Frequently Asked Question

Trusted in more than 100 countries and 4 million customers.

What is the difference between Standard and Flattened expanded metal?

Standard (raised) expanded metal retains its 3D diamond shape after expansion, providing excellent grip and drainage. Flattened expanded metal is cold-rolled after expansion to create a smooth, flat surface suitable for guards, screens, and decorative use.

Is expanded metal stronger than welded mesh?

For a given weight, expanded metal provides superior strength because it is made from a single sheet with no joints. Each strand is part of the original sheet. Welded mesh relies on the strength of individual weld points, which can be a failure point under stress.

Can expanded metal be used for architectural facades?

Yes. Flattened expanded metal in SS304 or Aluminium is widely used for building facades, sun screens, and decorative wall cladding. It provides ventilation, light diffusion, and a distinctive visual pattern.

What is the minimum order quantity?

We supply from a single sheet for urgent requirements up to bulk tonnage for project orders. Standard sizes are typically available from stock.

Can expanded metal be painted or powder-coated?

Yes. MS HR expanded metal is commonly painted or powder-coated for outdoor use. SS304 and Aluminium are typically supplied in mill finish.
